The story
Created in Boston in the late 1800s by crossing bulldogs and terriers, the Boston Terrier was one of the first breeds developed in the United States. Its gentle manners earned it the nickname the American Gentleman.
Training
Bostons are bright and willing, responding well to short, positive sessions, and are generally easier to train than many small breeds.
Grooming
The short coat needs only a weekly brush. Wipe the face and protect the large eyes, which can be prone to injury.
Food & diet
About 0.5 to 1.5 cups a day depending on size, split into two meals.
Exercise
Moderate. Daily walks and play keep them happy, and they enjoy games indoors.
Health to watch
Prone to eye conditions, breathing issues from the flat face, and patella problems. Choose a careful breeder.
Fun fact. The Boston Terrier is the official state dog of Massachusetts.
